I agree with you as well that this poem is a little weird, the thing that stood out for me the most was his choice of language in addition to this theme of almost insanity in some parts. He said some things that in the 1950's when he wrote this poem would not have been as widely accepted as they would be today.
I am not quite sure if I should make a separate post to ask a question, but one thing that really confused me was even though he was allowed to use almost any word he wanted, some being inappropriate for a classroom, one word was still filtered and I am just wondering why it was filtered while other words and phrases were not? Also on a kind of similar topic, what is his purpose for so many references to male sexual organs and sex in general?
Also did anyone else find it weird that the first part is basically just one long run on sentence? He seems to use other punctuation marks but it seems that he does not use many periods.
