‘Venus and the ark’ is a spoof because it makes fun of man, science
and technology. The purpose of sending
the missile to Venus was to collect scientific information that could possible benefit
the world. But, as a result, there is an
all-out nuclear war and all life on Earth is destroyed. It is
clear that the poem alludes to the story of the Noah and the ark. So, everything that was brought along on the
missile acts as Noah and all the animals.
Quickly the two Ph.D.’s give up on the experiments and release
everything, after realizing the futility of them. And just at the two of them die, they see the
first life come out of the seas of Venus.
So basically, man’s attempt to understand and master the universe is
futile and nature will always be more powerful.
